Aldo Tolino’s human portraits are the outcome of a multi-step creative loop which goes along the lines of: shooting a portrait, printing it on paper, then creasing it, tucking it and folding it until a brand new facial expression is created before shooting the printed-portrait-turned-sculpture for the final result.
Task:
Create a photosculpture portrait. (Self or other)
You must include photography depicting the physical appearance of the person as well as photography depicting who they are (personality, beliefs, environment, etc)
Use a method of sculpture-making with your printed or digital photographs.
Consider folding, cutting, building, projecting, etc. but ask yourself why you have chosen that method.
Steps:
In your sketchbook, please respond to the following...
1. Decide who your subject will be. Why have you chosen this person? What about them/their life/personality interests you? Are you able to get their permission to photograph?
2. Create a list of attributes that you'd like to illustrate about your subject.
3. Consider sculpture options. Which options best connect with the attributes you are focusing on?
4. Write about your plan. What will your finished product look like? How will you go about creating it?
